Home & Interiors: Nursery Inspiration

» This is a collaborative post with Homify «

One of the great joys of pregnancy (despite the obvious!) is designing and planning the space that your little one will grow up in.

Whilst your sweet baby will probably spend the first six months or so in your room, the nursery is still likely to be that special place where you feed him/her, change their little bottom and then, when they’re ready, it’ll be their own sanctuary for sleep and quiet play.

Nursery Inspiration With Homify

Homify is a fabulous platform for seeking nursery decor inspiration and style ideas and you could quite easily sit for hours sifting through and discovering the latest nursery trends, running your thoughts by others in their community forum or finding the perfect product or expert to help you complete your dream nursery.

So, what are my favourite nursery items and essentials?

– A NURSING CHAIR –

The Ridgeway : Modern nursery/kids room by Civic Design + Build

However you plan to feed your baby, a nursing chair is a welcome addition to any nursery. You can often be sat with your baby for long periods of time trying to help them off to sleep or just sat looking at them whilst they dream away so it’s useful to have a comfortable place to get cosy.

– SHELVES & STORAGE –

Babies have a LOT of stuff. Whether it be practical things like nappies and cream or keepsakes that need to be kept out of their reach, shelves or creative storage solutions are a great way to keep everything organised.

– WALL ARTWORK –

Small children love to look around and wall artwork or colourful wallpaper/borders will not only catch your angel’s imagination but also help them to become familiar with their surroundings.

– MATCHING NURSERY FURNITURE SETS –

Kinderbett ’Ninio’ : Beds & cribs by Allnatura

Whilst by no means essential, I adore matching nursery furniture sets. With Lily, we opted for the cot (which turns to cotbed), wardrobe and changing table in a dark wood. However, I love the light, airy and distressed-finish to the furniture shown above too – so stylish and beautiful!

– COT MOBILES –

Dual-faced CLOUD mobile (sleepy cloud) : Accessories & decoration by Les Petits Pois sont Bleus

We felt that Lily really benefitted from having a musical cot mobile in her room.

It hung above her head and she got used to the delicate tune sending her off to snoozeland every day/night so it became an integral part of our bedtime routine.

When she was very small, she was captivated by the spinning shapes and colours as they completely fascinated her. I used to melt watching her 🙂

Have you used Homify before to inspire your creative side?

What are your essential nursery items?

Ooh totally loving your inspiration, such fabby stuff!

      It’s cute isn’t it? 🙂
As we’re in a rented home, we’ve just made the best of what we’ve got without painting the walls or doing anything too ‘permanent’.
There’s so much you can do nowadays without causing any damage!

It’s fab isn’t it? I agree, I am not a fan of everything blue or everything pink or anything like that, I like animals and things that can encourage her imagination to run wild X

It’s been 11 years since I planned a nursery and everything seems so much better now… I feel jealous! Haha! I remember ours was very neutral with a few colourful accessories here and there with lots of oak. It was such a small room though but then we moved when my daughter was two which felt like she gained a room in a mansion as it was 4x the size! xx

Oak is lovely, I’m a big fan of the natural look. Ah more room for all of those books and toys I bet! 😉 X

I have not used homify, but a great crib is great for me because you Will use it but if you have a great crib it takes care of the aesthetics as well. Just love the look of some of these new modern cribs…

We have a wooden cotbed for Lily from Mamas and Papas but I’ve recently seen some gorgeous metal-framed cribs in different colours which are beautiful as well and have more of a modern look X

Some lovely ideas there, don’t them rooms look gorgeous. Ive tried my best with lilys room. We have only just moved her in, we have wall stickers 🙂 wish i had that chair for the night time feeds though.

    • February 28, 2016 / 12:40 AM

      Ah another Lily eh? 😉
Wall stickers are great as they’re not too destructive if you’re renting and can brighten up a nursery really quickly and easily.
We used to have owl wall stickers for Lily from B & Q before we moved and she loved them!

I love some of these but I’ve always wondered if it’s really worth doing? They don’t say babies for very long! Maybe I’m looking at it differently because I’m not a mother.

    • February 28, 2016 / 12:42 AM

I do see where you’re coming from but I think it’s all part of the experience – especially when a lot of new parents go through the ‘nesting’ stage where you just want everything to be perfect and you’re waiting for your little bundle of joy to arrive.
Most babies stay with their parents until they’re about 6 months old anyway so I always think it’s better to decorate the nursery to suit an older baby/toddler so it will last for a few years etc.

Loving all of these styles, sadly my children are grown. One day, if I am lucky enough for grandchildren, it would be great to see how their rooms get styled!

    • February 28, 2016 / 12:44 AM

Goodness knows what nurseries will look like in the future eh? 😉

I like them too but particularly the cloud mobile, it caught my eye as I was browsing through the ideas as it’s just so sweet X
