Places For A Quiet Afternoon
— Mothercare/ELC/Angelina’s Tea & Cake (Warrington) At the Junction Nine Retail Park in Warrington there’s a HUGE Mothercare & ELC that’s just been recently revamped. It’s a haven for any mother who has an addiction to buying things for their little ones (hell, that’s all of us right?), a Happyland tea rooms-style play area on the top floor right next to Angelina’s Tea & Cake which has baby changing facilities, a kid-friendly eating area equipped with a little table, toys, TV and chalkboard easel and some of the nicest patisseries I’ve ever been lucky enough to treat myself to (they also do your usual hot drinks, toasties etc. and have a good selection for little ones as well).
— Kenyon Hall Farm On Winwick Lane toward Warrington there’s a lovely little farm that does pick-your-own, has a wonderful outdoor playpark and a delicious café/farm shop. We picked our own pumpkins from the farm last Halloween and also popped in for our Christmas tree later on in the year. This year, we’d like to go berry-picking in the summer and buy some nice plants for the back yard (plus, it’s an excuse to visit the café which is really yummy and has a very homely feel)
Baby & Toddler Groups
Golborne Sports & Social Club // Thursdays — 9.15 – 11.15am // £2.00 for 1 child and 1 adult, £1.00 per additional adult (I’m not sure how much it is extra children but I doubt it’s more than £1.00 each)
— This is our regular group as it’s the closest to us and it’s really warm, friendly and welcoming. It’s basically a large room with chairs all around in a circle and the toilets at one end and a stage at the other. There’s lots of toys in the middle suitable from birth upwards and the parents sit around them on the seats if they’re not playing with their kiddos down on the floor. There’s also a little craft area in the corner which has something different set up every week. At 10.00am we have tea/coffee and biscuits (free) and you can buy a slice of toast for 10p each. The little ones can also have some of the treats set up on the table which is usually berries, yogurts and cheese. Towards the end of the session it’s tidy-up time before a good ‘ole sing-song before the playgroup finishes.
