This is Lily’s second Christmas so we’re at that tender age where she’s starting to understand who the big man is, enough that we have to be careful about what we say, but I honestly don’t think she’ll really ‘get’ the whole magic of the festive season until next year.
This is also our second year hosting Christmas so I expect it’ll be our turn next year to relax whilst somebody else cooks the dinner and kickstarts the celebrations or perhaps we’ll even jet off somewhere wintery as a special holiday treat, who knows?
But, if we’re lucky enough to be elsewhere, how will Santa know where to deliver our presents? How will I reassure Lily that she doesn’t need to worry about him forgetting that we’re not in?
That’s where the wonder of modern technology comes in. Say hello to Reroute Santa!
Reroute Santa is a FREE service offered by HomeAway, a world leader in holiday rental properties.
So, how does it work?
Well, let’s imagine that we live in The Little Kingdom and we’re Princess Holly (it sounds like a sweet life if you ask me!) but Mrs. Elf makes a cracking roast and we’ve decided to swap carnage at The Little Castle with those pesky twins Daisy and Poppy for a more relaxed time over at the The Great Elf Tree with our bestie Ben.
How will Santa know that she’s not at her usual royal residence but is slumming it with the elves instead?
That’s where this fantastic interactive tool comes in and allows children to communicate with the North Pole letting Santa know exactly where they’ll be spending Christmas this year.
This is the Reroute Santa homepage and you can see straight away that it’s really simple. It asks your little one to fill in their name, where they’re from and where they’ll be spending the big day.
If your kiddo is under 13 (and I do think that most children have sussed out the game by the stage) then you can do this with them on their behalf.
After filling in the information, just press the ‘Send to Father Christmas’ button and sit back with your munchkin to watch the beautiful animation sequence showing their request being sent to the North Pole before a personalised response from Father Christmas is generated which can be saved, shared and emailed to you as required.
As an example, here’s Princess Holly’s e-letter from Father Christmas:
Isn’t that awesome?
It’s so easy to do and everything is child-friendly so you don’t have to worry about anything ruining the magic for them.
It’s well worth doing, in my opinion, to give your kids that additional piece of mind that their presents will turn up at the right address.
HomeAway recently carried out a study by interviewing hundreds of parents across the country and whilst 81% of children are still writing Christmas lists and sending them off to the North Pole, over half of them are worried that Santa might lose track of where to drop off their presents if they go on holiday or stay elsewhere over the festive season putting a dampener on things when they should be enjoying the celebrations.
Thankfully there’s now a quick and simple way to put their minds at ease!
Are you going away this Christmas?
Will you be using the Reroute Santa tool to let Father Christmas know where to go?
