Review (+ Giveaway!) : Vertese Vegetarian & Vegan Supplements

Following our participation in Veganuary, Michael and I have gradually moved towards vegetarianism rather than a vegan lifestyle for the moment as we like Lily to eat her meals with us so we can share the same foods.

As we’ve moved away from meat on a permanent basis, it’s been important for us to ensure that we’re not lacking in any essential vitamins and minerals that we would have formerly relied upon by eating these foods.

We were, therefore, really pleased when Vertese got in touch and asked us to try out some of their supplements in the form of their ‘Beetroot, B12 & Iron Complex’ and ‘Mushroom D’ vitamin tablets.

The Vertese website is a fantastic source of information for vegetarians and vegans. A bustling hub for those adopting such a lifestyle – there’s recipes, event announcements and articles dealing with FAQ regarding nutrition and living well.

We’ve found it really useful as we continue in our meat-free journey.

As a work-from-home mama, my evenings are dedicated to blogging and there’s not many nights where my head hits my pillow before the clock strikes 12. If Lily is having a hard time with her teeth or feels unsettled, I can be up again before I’ve even had a chance to go to sleep and when the next day begins, I find that I’m completely exhausted.

It’s really important that I find a way to beat the fatigue and this supplement has been my helping hand these past few weeks.

Most people get the Vitamin B12 and iron they require from animal foods as it is the most readily available source of these vital nutrients.

For veggies and vegans, it can be difficult to try and find sufficient levels of these supplements in plant-based foods and it can actually be harder to absorb what you need from these sorts of foods rather than your usual meat products.

I don’t always have the time to plan our diets so stringently and this box of goodies has been a god-send in providing us with everything that we need to keep our energy levels up throughout our busy days.

Mushroom D

Have you ever been sick with a baby? Have you ever been sick with a sick baby?

Urgh. It is the worst kind of situation.

Like most of us, I can’t afford to be unwell and as I spend my days snuggling up to Lily, the chances are if I got something, she would too (and vice versa).

That’s why I am determined to safeguard my immune system and keep everything in tip-top condition ready to fight off any germs that come our way (and believe me, with playgroup, the park and children all around us wherever we go, there WILL be germs!)

Vitamin D is a big player here and apparently, aside from meat, you can find the stuff in mushrooms and milk (and, of course, sunlight – when the sun shows it’s face that is!)

However, to make sure we’re getting ENOUGH Vitamin D, this supplement gives us a well-needed boost as it contains organic, high strength Vitamin D as naturally sourced from mushrooms.

Clever eh? 😉

We’ve definitely seen and felt the benefits of using these two supplements from Vertese and we’ll be buying these again to support us along our way as we continue with our meat-free lifestyle.

      It’s difficult to change your mindset but you get used to it eventually. It’s going out for meals and special occasions that can be hard, sometimes there’s not much choice! x

      I have felt much better taking supplements just to top up what we’re getting from our foods. When we have a busy week I don’t always think about what we’re eating too much (as long as it’s fairly healthy) so it’s a brilliant compliment to our diets x

    These are a great idea, I imagine it must be harder to find vegan supplements! I won’t be entering (I’m a meat eater) as I’ll give all the lovely vegans more of a chance to win!

    They look really good. I am not vegan or vegetarian but don’t like taking tablets with anything in as I just think its disgusting. Its great that they also provide so much information on nutrition and recipes to help keep up all the goodness you need.
