If you’re pregnant and need some rest and relaxation, why not go on a babymoon?

A babymoon is a holiday expectant parents take before their little one arrives. It’s an opportunity to spend some quality time together — and it’s becoming more and more popular.

Need some ideas for destinations? Here are 5 awesome destinations to take it easy if you’re looking at going travelling whilst pregnant.

Alicante, Spain

With fresh air, fresh food, and stunning sea views, Alicante offers many opportunities for you to relax. Lie back underneath a brightly coloured umbrella and soak up some sun, or take a leisurely stroll under the palm trees of the marble Explanada de España.

Want to venture into the city? The tram system makes it easy to get about, especially if pregnancy is making you tired, and there’s lots of cafés with outdoor seating if you get peckish.

Hay-On-Wye, Wales

Full of history, Hay-On-Wye is located in the north of the Brecon Beacons National Park. You could spend hours lazily browsing in the antique shops and bookshops (there are over twenty, giving the town the label of National Book Town of Wales).

Head out on a gentle country walk if you want to explore, or drive to just outside Merthyr Tydfil to take a trip along the Brecon Mountain Railway, where you can settle down and admire the views.

Mykonos, Greece

Famed around the world for its pristine white buildings, charming cobbled streets, and deep blue waters, Mykonos is a paradise for pregnant travellers.

This Greek island has plenty of cultural hotspots, with three museums, its landmark windmills, and Lena’s House, which is decorated in traditional 19th-century style. Stroll around and browse the boutiques before visiting one of the tavernas in Little Venice for delicious, traditional Greek cuisine.

If you’d rather sit back and do absolutely nothing, there are plenty of beautiful beaches, with crystal-clear water and pristine white sand.

Loch Lomond, Scotland

Scotland’s landscapes are a sight to behold, and if you’re looking to enjoy some peace and quiet in a secluded location then you can’t beat Loch Lomond.

There’s plenty of forests, mountains and, of course, the loch itself. Curl up in front of the fire, enjoy hearty meals, and enjoy some much-needed downtime. If you can bear to drag yourself away from the comfort of your B&B, take a gentle cruise along the loch and see if you can spot the resident seals.

Sicily, Italy

Friendly locals and a laid-back atmosphere mean Sicily is ideal for anyone who wants to take it easy — it’s the perfect babymoon destination. There’s an abundance of stunning coastal resorts to choose from, including Catania’s promenade and the sandy Cefalu, and Sicily is well known for its unique, fresh cuisine.

If motion sickness isn’t a problem for you, then it’s worth taking a day trip to the nearby Aeolian Islands, where you can feel the benefits of the healing properties of the geothermal baths.

Have you ever taken a babymoon or are you planning on getting away before your little one arrives?
