Hello Beautiful Bear was started on a whim after a cup of coffee and a huge slice of chocolate cake with a new friend.
As a first-time, twenty-something mama surviving on tiny snippets of semi-conscious sleep, embracing motherhood and the joy of meeting our gorgeous baby girl and trying to crack the secrets of (a) breast/formula-feeding a very hungry sproglet, (b) getting dressed before 4pm and (c) learning to do practically everything whilst juggling a baby in my arms, I was given oodles of down-to-earth advice, tips and reassurance by a wonderful woman who’d been there, done that and got the milk-stained t-shirt.
I left feeling empowered, inspired and amazingly relaxed and that evening, I poured my heart and soul in to my first ever blog post and Hello Beautiful Bear was born.
This is our little corner of the internet where I share our stories and photographs as a virtual memory box for our daughter. Like most of us, I am completely head-over-heels besotted with her and I talk about her constantly. I also talk about motherhood – the good, the bad and the ugly – and I truly hope you come away from reading our journey feeling the way I did that day.
I’m in my twenties (I used to be able to say ‘early twenties’ but I’m just past the half-way point so I’ve got to stop pulling that one really haven’t I?) and I live in the North West of England with my boyfriend, Michael, and our 2-year-old daughter, Lily Grace (see below).
I’ve got a legal background but I currently work from home as a blogger, freelance writer and social media manager. It requires a decent amount of Yorkshire Tea and I think my eyes are going a little square but it’s cool, I love what I do and I manage my time around my work commitments, the housework and (the very best job) looking after our little girl.
Michael is my partner of nearly nine years and I met him through work back when I was seventeen. We moved in together after just 2 weeks and the rest, as they say, is history!
We got engaged quite early on and would eventually like to get married at Loch Alvie Church in Aviemore, Scotland. We stumbled across it whilst travelling the country many years ago and decided straight away that it was perfect for us but life’s been a rollercoaster (as usual) and we just haven’t had the chance to get hitched as of yet.
He’s everything I could ever wish for (aside from his incessant worrying, just chill OK?) — he’s a wonderful father, he makes me laugh so hard that tears stream down my face or I (very unattractively!) snort my drink out of my nose, we can both be completely open with each other 100% of the time and I, quite simply, couldn’t be without him.
He’s a retail manager which is the bane of his life but pays the bills and is happy to selflessly dedicate himself to his PS4 when I’ve got blogging work to do in the evenings!
Lily is the child I always wished for but never thought we’d be blessed with!
She is our miracle baby (well, toddler nowadays) and surprises us every day. People joke that she’s ‘been here before’ because she comes out with these obscure words and phrases that none of us would ever say!
Her hobbies include sleeping horizontally in our bed (I’m lucky enough to get the head end, Mike gets her feet in his face!), wearing her wellies every hour of every day, being a human dustbin and running away the second you take her toddlepak off.
