AO very kindly gifted us a Vax Dual Power Max Carpet Cleaner to review. As always, these words and opinions are completely my own.
Am I the only person who will happily sit and waste a few minutes of my day watching those clips on Facebook captioned ‘this video is super satisfying‘ or ‘the most satisfying video you’ll see this week’?
The smoothest mirror glaze being dripped over a cake, a calligraphy wizard making the most amazing script writing by hand without a single mistake, a high-powered jet wash revealing the bright, clean paving stones underneath a layer of dirt and muck or perhaps a carpet cleaner showing the difference between grubby, ‘used condition’ carpets and the fresh, clean results afterwards.
Yes, they’re fun to watch but did I really need a carpet cleaner of my own? Surely those videos just showed the extremes? As far as I was concerned, my run-of-the-mill living room carpet definitely couldn’t be that bad…

Prepare to be DISGUSTED! 🤮 Honestly, I am so ashamed with the state of our carpet (swipe >>> to see why!) I always thought carpet cleaners weren’t necessary, a luxury for those who had the time and inclination to have the freshest and cleanest carpets in the land ✨ but certainly not an everyday item I should have stood up next to my hoover, right? WRONG! With a rabbit who chucks his bedding around (little devil 🐰😈), a toddler who uses a potty at night 💩 and could possibly be described as a little feral at times 😂, a dog who won’t go outside if the heavens open 🙄 and a clumsy mama who is always spilling things 🙈, it’s no wonder a quick once over with our new #VaxDualPowerPro from @ao made the water turn this murky! And we play on this floor as well, ALL of the time! 😱😩 Mortified doesn’t even begin to cut it guys, I am going to be using this at least once a month because there’s no way I’m going to let it get this bad again! It always looked clean after a hoover but obviously not? 🧐😢 #ad #AOathome #carpetcleaner #springcleaning #motherhoodthroughinstagram #familylife #cleaninghacks #cleaningtips #yuck
Just look at the colour of that dirty water! With our 3-year-old toddler running around the place together with our mucky pets, this carpet has definitely seen its fair share of stains and stubborn marks but I wasn’t expecting such a dramatic result from our floors!
We received the Vax Dual Power Max Carpet Cleaner from AO to review recently and I’ve put it through its paces so you can see what you’re getting for your money before popping this in your online shopping basket. It’s currently being sold for £199 which seems to be the standard RRP but with AO you’re getting free and fast delivery from 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week (with paid options also available should you require a certain time of day delivery-wise). This item is also available for next-day delivery if needed.
AO’s website is incredibly user-friendly and has a handy rating system — the Vax Dual Power Max currently has an approval rating of 4.8/5 which is very good — together with customer reviews and videos shown on the same page so you can really get to grips with the product and make sure it’s what you’re looking for whilst ensuring it ticks all of the right boxes.
After AO placed my order, next-day delivery via DPD was confirmed and I received a text message the next morning providing a handy 1-hour time slot for delivery so I could plan our day accordingly. Delivery was on time as planned with a helpful courtesy call beforehand and the DPD driver kindly brought the box into the house as I was busy with Lily when he arrived (she was trailing toilet roll around the house like the Andrex puppy!)
We’ve ordered from AO before for bulkier items like our washer/dryer and again, the delivery was well-organised and prompt with great customer service from AO’s own drivers and hands-on team.
Key features of the Vax Dual Power Max Carpet Cleaner
— Long 8m cord length allows you to get more done without having to move plug sockets.
— Dual rotating brush bars help to remove tough stains and effectively lift dirt from the carpets.
— Large water tank capacity so you can clean multiple rooms in one go without having to refill as often.
— Extra attachment included for sofas and upholstery. We’ve also used this to clean our many sets of stairs!
— 2-year guarantee with Vax (to be registered within 28 days of purchase).
— 250ml Ultra+ Vax carpet cleaning solution is included. This foamed up really well and made us feel like the carpets were getting a decent clean. It has a pleasant, refreshing smell and isn’t overpowering or clinical.
The Vax Dual Power Max Carpet Cleaner takes seconds to assemble and consists of two tanks — one for clean water (4.2 litres, the top tank) and the other for dirty water (3.5 litres, the bottom tank).
To use the carpet cleaner, you simply fill the top water tank with fresh water and add the appropriate amount of Vax Ultra+ carpet cleaning solution. The tank can be removed and taken directly to the sink to be filled up but our kitchen tap is quite low and it wouldn’t fit underneath so we used a jug instead. The bottom water tank is left empty and will fill up with dirty water as the carpets are cleaned.
We slowly pushed the carpet cleaner across the areas in our living room that we knew had some stubbon stains to begin with. I can get most things out with our usual carpet cleaning spray (if I’m quick enough) but there are some that it hasn’t been able to shift unfortunately. When we’d managed to remove those, we then went over the rest of the room and the machine seemed to clean the carpet quickly and effectively. Overall, it took us around 20-30 minutes to complete the room. If needed, you can also press the boost button on the handle for an extra burst of the Vax cleaning solution to tackle any rebellious stains.
It has a foolproof design which is easy to work your way around but I would make a point of saying that it’s quite heavy and bulky which can take some getting used to. We have a Dyson ball vacuum cleaner which manouevers effortlessly around corners and tricky hard-to-reach spots whereas this was very rigid so whereas I usually whip around quick as a flash, this took more effort and I had to move all of the furnture out of the way to get to every inch of the carpets. It isn’t your everyday item so you’d probably expect to do this anyway when you’re carrying out a deep clean but it’s definitely a workout and cleaning session combined!
After we’d finished cleaning the entire room, our carpets were quite damp and it probably took an hour or two for them to dry completely without us getting wet socks!
Unfortunately, all of our carpets are grey so it’s hard to really show you a before and after comparison but the dirty water speaks for itself. I am still shocked at how filthy they were but I’m pleased that our carpets look so noticeably refreshed. We’ve even had comments asking if we’ve had them replaced!
Overall, we’re very impressed with the Vax Dual Power Max Carpet Cleaner and I think the purchase price of £199 is reasonable and easily justified. As we’re in rented accomodation, this is a must-have item as we’ve previously been charged £100 – £150 at the end of our previous tenancys for a professional carpet clean or had to hire an external machine for £25p/h as a standard condition of our tenancy agreements.
However, we’ll now be able to provide the same outstanding results by using the carpet cleaner instead and it really will pay for itself in the long run. We’re also planning to use the upholstery tool on our car seats as they’re looking worse for wear at the moment and the tool brought our fabric sofa up beautifully (which is subjected to spills on pretty much a daily basis) so we’re hoping for similar results in the car aswell.
In summary, if you’re somebody who likes to see instant, impressive results then the Vax Dual Power Max Carpet Cleaner is for you!
Would you give this a go on your carpets? Do you think you’d be as shocked as we were?
