I’m currently reading the ever-so-popular The Gentle Parenting Book by Sarah Ockwell-Smith and I was pleasantly surprised to see an entire chapter dedicated to self-care and wellbeing as parents. To be what you want to be and what you’re striving to be as a mother/father, you need to look after yourself and allow yourself a break without letting the guilt get you down. I know, I know, it’s hard. I’m bloomin’ terrible at taking some time for myself or looking after myself properly but it’s something I’m trying to fit in.
I don’t want to be short-tempered or distracted, or even feeling as though I just don’t have anything else left to give — that isn’t what she needs. Of course, you don’t need to spend anything to effectively practice self-care or look after yourself properly (we all know there’s more to self-care than toiletries and hot drinks) but I always feel as though having a few luxuries lying around is a great incentive to take the break you deserve and serves as a handy reminder to free up some time to fill your empty cup.
So, with that in mind, here’s what’s currently on my wishlist and, as usual, they’re all vegan-friendly…
Real Luxury™ Bath & Shower Drops — NEOM Organics // The Sun & Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur — Amazon UK // “Shine Bright Beautiful Creature’ Soy Wax Candle — Flamingo Candles // Rocky Road Hot Chocolate — Whittard of Chelsea // “Sympathy For The Skin” Body Lotion — LUSH
I just want to take a second to tell you how much I adored the first Rupi Kaur book — Milk & Honey. The poems are incredibly beautiful, empowering and raw. It’s a healing book, regardless of whether or not you think you need any, and the words are so well-written and emotive that they almost seem to drip off the pages.
What do you do for self-care and how do you make sure you’re getting some time for yourself on a regular basis?
Also, what products would be on your wellbeing wishlist?
